Curriculum Vitae

Biography

Born in Germany in 1973, Jochen Guck started his Physics training at the University of Würzburg, before he moved to the USA (MA and PhD in Physics from the University of Texas at Austin). He then moved back to Germany, to lead a research group at the University of Leipzig. Recently he accepted a Lecturer position at the Cambridge Physics Department. He is part of the Sector for Biological and Soft Systems and involved in the Physics of Medicine initiative. His research centers on exploring the global physical properties of biological cells and tissues and their importance for the cells` function and behavior. He also develops novel photonic tools for the study of these optical and mechanical properties. The ultimate goal is utilizing this insight for novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. He has contributed to two books and authored over thirty research articles. He holds several patents that are likely to impact cancer diagnosis and marker-free stem cell sorting, which have recently been licensed to a German company.
