PhD student vacancies

A PhD studentship within the International Training Network (ITN) EU grant TRANSPOL is available to start on October 1st 2011. The wider TRANSPOL project involves an interdisciplinary team of biologists and physicists from a number of EU countries, working on processes of transport and polarisation in cells. The specific project to be carried out in Cambridge under the supervision of Dr Pietro Cicuta will concern membrane mechanics and developing in-vitro model experiments. The involvement in the ITN guarantees participation in training modules and workshops throughout the doctorate.

Some experience in soft matter physics, optical trapping, instrument automation and/or biological physics is desired. According to EU regulations, candidates can be of any nationality. They should have less than 4 years of research experience and should not have resided in the United Kingdom for more than 12 months during the past 3-year period.

Economic conditions are very good.

Closing date: 7 May 2011.

Further application details are available at: http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/hr/jobs/vacancies.cgi?job=8039

Inquiries are welcome for PhD positions. A reminder that overseas (non EU) applications need to be submitted very early (around November, for a start in the following October) in order to be considered for all funding opportunities. UK applicants should ideally apply around January. Further information is available here.
