I am interested in studying interfaces between biological and abiological systems, and methods to improve the interface compatibility. This includes combining carbon nanotechnology and new material fabrication techniques to create structures of defined texture, patterns and stiffness. Particular emphasis is to incorporate bio-compatible nanomaterial-macromolecule hybrids into the materials to monitor the changing electronic interactions inside electronic active biological systems, such as naturally-occurring photosynthetic organisms and muscle/neuron cells, and furthermore, to gain better understanding in the material structures adapted by the constituting molecular aggregates. In the process, we explore the potential of directly extracting electricity from renewable, abundant sources of plants, algae and cyanobacteria.
Projects can be tailored to a PartIII/ NanoDTC/ PhD level. Please visit the Research section for project details.
