Honorary Degree and media appearances for Athene Donald

Athene Donald received an Honorary DSC from the University of Manchester last week (www.manchester.ac.uk).

She has been rather visible in the media in recent weeks, including appearances on BBC Radio 3's Private Passions discussing her (classical) musical loves and the impact it has had on her life( www.bbc.co.uk); discussing the impact of toys on girls' choices at university and beyond (www.bbc.co.uk), in the run up to her BSA Presidential Address in Bradford last month (www.britishscienceassociation.org), in the Financial Times discussing leadership (www.ft.com),and in the Observer writing about the importance of sustained science funding in the next Comprehensive Spending Review for the economy (www.theguardian.com).

Dr Diana Fusco has joined the Cavendish this Summer with a Lectureship, to set up a mixed experimental/computational research programme in biological physics. Her team will initially investigate microbial populations, growth and evolution, interactions between bacteria and phages.
